SRO For Second Liars Bench Show of the Fall 2012 Season!

Liars Bench fans what a start (not counting Mountain Heritage Day) for the Fall 2012 season!
We were packing them in the aisles.
Gary told a short ghost story about a fortune teller and a dog to a young audience member (she was spell bound).
Paul sang a song, the "Long White Veil", about a woman in a graveyard.

Lloyd told a spooky story about the "Lady in the Curve." By the way, Lloyd still has the shawl that the ghostly apparition left in his truck!!!
The main event--our Guest Star, Dot Jackson--former columnist, novelist (Dot's novel "Refuge" is available on Amazon--http://www.amazon.com/Refuge-Dot-Jackson/dp/0976096358), and Southern Appalachian storyteller put on a tremendous show.
Dot told a bunch of ghost stories, including "The Old Woman at Table Rock State Park" and "The Long-Nose Big Ear People".
The audience loved it.
Liars Bench regulars and rising Stars The Boys From Tuckasegee--Ethan Fortner, Wyatt Messer, and his daddy Russell, put on a great show. They played great songs such as "Flint Hill Special" and "The Old Woman in the Graveyard."
Paul Iarussi, Liars Bench regular and Star, wrapped the show with "Katy Dew."
And you, the Liars Bench Show fans, were the best part.
As always, from Gary and the rest of the crew of the Liars Bench--Thank You Liars  Bench fans and thank you to the staff of the MHC for providing the Liars Bench with a great home for 2012-2013!
Ruff, ruff (Bodine says thanks too).

“Appalachian Spook Tales” Liars Bench To Play At WCU Mountain Heritage Center.”

"The Liars Bench presents southern Appalachian fright tales at WCUs Mountain Heritage Center.”

Thursday October 18 at 7:00 pm The Liars Bench presents “Appalachian Spook Tales” at WCUs Mountain Heritage Center auditorium. Member Stars Gary Carden, Lloyd Arneach, Paul Iarussi; guest Star storyteller Dot Jackson; and the Tuckaseegee Boys, Ethan Fortner, Russel Messer, and Wyatt Messer perform Southern Appalachian 'scary' in story and song on one stage. Free Admission.
Dot Jackson, novelist & storyteller
Carden said “I've been a friend of Dot Jackson for forty years and she is one of the most entertaining and knowledgeable storytellers that I know of. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of Southern Appalachian tales—some of which will scare your socks off. This is a going to be a real treat for everyone.”

Regular cast members include Gary Carden, Lloyd Arneach, Paul Iarussi, the Tuckaseegee Boys and the show’s mascot Bodine. The Liars Bench recognizes established regional artists and performers and encourages new talent also.

“The outside world stereotypes us as an ignorant, violent culture, and that's not true. Yet at the same time we've had our share of murder and violence. Sometimes its been quite dark. This Liars Bench won't be a 'funny-face,' jack-o-lantern type of Halloween show. You need to be ready for Southern Appalachian 'scary,'” Carden remarked.

“This is the third Halloween show we've done and I know that the audience will be very impressed with the stories of both Lloyd Arneach and Dot Jackson” said Carden. The Liars Bench, a fusion of culture and entertainment, has been a crowd-pleaser from the very first show in June of 2010 promoting any and all aspects of Appalachian culture.

The Liars Bench is a unique blend of culturally accurate mountain Americana with traditional Southern Appalachian entertainment for everyone. We attempt to treat Appalachian culture with integrity and authenticity and to be an accurate reflection of the Southern Highlanders and their ways. No matter how successful the show becomes I want people to know that The Liars Bench is an honest rendering of Appalachian culture and tradition” said Carden.

The Liars Bench was created in the early summer of 2010 by Dr. Gary Carden to promote Southern Appalachian storytelling, music, poetry, drama, and folk arts.

The next presentation of The Liars Bench at WCUs Mountain Heritage Center will be Thursday November 15 at 7 pm with a special presentation of one of Dr. Carden's plays, “Birdell;” the story of a defiant mountain woman forced off her land by the rising waters of Fontana lake.
